In this video project a parallel is drawn between past and present. In
doing so, it reveals what a completely urbanized landscape does to our
freedom of movement. The project is centered around De Zuidelijke Wandelweg,
a road that used to be significant for the recreation of the inhabitants
of Amsterdam. The road and its surrounding areas had a very social and
accessible character. Residents from de Wandelweg’s past are invited
to retrace this road 70 years after its heyday.
Aside from the observable implications of urban growth, the ‘Wandelweg’
project also hints at the psychological effects of urbanization.
